Blackburn Rovers fans should be keeping a keen eye on the Championship fixtures taking place this week as the season enters its final throws.

John Eustace's side remain embroiled in the battle of the bottom of the division. After spurning the chance to guarantee safety against Sheffield Wednesday, Rovers need four points to mathematically secure their place in the division.

In all likelihood, it will take far fewer from their last six available but that depends on results elsewhere. All eyes will be on Huddersfield Town against Birmingham City this weekend, which will have a huge bearing on the picture at the bottom.

This week, four of the six teams with games in hand play to level things up to 44 games apiece. The only exception will be Ipswich Town, who play Coventry City next Tuesday ahead of matchday 46 because of the latter's FA Cup exploits.

Leicester City host Southampton on Tuesday night knowing that three points will put them on the brink of promotion. Ahead of kick-off, the Foxes have a two-point lead over Ipswich in third.

Victory over Saints would make that five and four over Leeds, with two games remaining. If they then beat Preston North End next Monday, they will be a Premier League club before Rovers travel to the King Power on the final day.

Similarly, Coventry host Hull City. Anything but three points for the hosts and their season is effectively over before they come to Ewood Park on Saturday.

Coventry invested 120 minutes of energy and emotion into their weekend defeat to Manchester United. A reverse against Hull, ending their play-off hopes, could see them slope off the beach a fortnight early.

Whilst Rovers have seen recently that teams with nothing to play for don't always lack motivation, it would certainly be a welcome boost.
